Jean Herron (1924-2017) Mildred Jean Ford Herron or Jean, a long-time resident of Fircrest, passed away on June 6th, 2017 in Orem, Utah on her 74th wedding anniversary from a series of three strokes, within a single week.

Almost 93 years old, she was just shy of her birthday, on June 11th (1924).

She was the daughter of Anna Kate and Delta Foster Ford from University Place where she spent her childhood running among the peach trees, loving school, and helping tend the tomatoes in her parents' large garden.

Jean was the wife of Floyd Sterling Herron, the love of her life. Floyd served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the USS Pennsylvania and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. They were married during the war on June 6, 1943 in University Place, and had been married 72 years at the time of his passing.

They had five children, all living: Katie Farmer, Robert Herron, Mary Gordon, Craig Herron, and Andrea Sheehan; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren scattered about the country.

Jean was born in Tacoma, Washington, Oakland Addition and lived 90 of her 93 years in the area including, Gig Harbor. Jean was the sixth of six children: Foster, Frances, Melva, Grace, and Helen.

Jean is survived by her older sister, Helen, now of Hawaii, and was one of the last of her generation including dear friends. Jean graduated from Stadium High School and attended Evergreen State College after her children had grown, receiving a B.A. in Art. She loved her experience at the college and the diversity of her faculty and fellow students. Jean was an artist with every fiber of her body. She painted professionally; worked with water colors, charcoal and oils; taught art classes for many years; exhibited broadly, and, saw everything through a vibrant and multi-colored lens. She was a totally devoted mother, a fully engaged grandmother, and a loyal and devoted friend to many. In their later years, Floyd and Jean traveled the country in their "fifth wheel." They also lived for several years in Mount Tahoma Terrace, and spent the last four years of her life living in Orem and Provo, Utah near her daughter, Katie. As in Tacoma, she quickly made numerous friends, who grew to love her. She also continued painting beautiful works of art until the last week of her life. A Graveside Service is planned for Father's Day, June 18th, at 2:00 P.M. at the Old Tacoma Cemetery for family and friends.
