After retirement, he built himself a home on the family farm, where he enjoyed tending to an expansive garden. He especially enjoyed his tomato plants. He was also a cooking enthusiast and enjoyed preparing many wonderful meals for his family.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine Cherewko, daughters, Tanya Maguire and Larisa Frankoski. Son, Gregory Cherewko, sister, Nadia Schlotzhauer, five granddaughters and one grandson. Preceding him in death were his parents, sister, Tamara Petroff, an his ex-wife.
Ukrainian Orthodox funeral service was held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 200 S. Harrison St., in Easton, Maryland. Friends were able to pay their respects one hour prior. Burial then followed next to other family members, in Spring Hill Cemetery.
