Byron Lester Berry, 104, of Boise, died on Feb. 27, 2007 of natural causes in a Boise care center. Byron Berry, the son of James Thomas and May Holloway Berry, was born Dec. 5, 1902 at John Day, Ore. In 1905 the family moved to Kane, Ill. and later to Jerseyville, Ill. In April of 1913 he went to Fox, Ore. to live with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Rissa Woods. In 1918, upon the death of his uncle he moved with his aunt to Filer, Idaho. He was a graduate of Filer High School and received his B.A degree from the University of Idaho in 1927. On May 25, 1934, he was united in marriage to Myrtle Catherine Dexter in Twin Falls, Idaho. One daughter, Patricia Anne was born to this union. His wife preceded him in death on May 26, 1960 in Filer. Most of his adult life was spent in teaching and farming until his retirement and moving in June 1968, to Boise. On May 14, 1983 he married Elma Miller. She passed away on Feb. 2, 1998 after a long siege with Alzheimers disease. His daughter, Patricia, sister, and four brothers preceded Byron in death. Bryon is survived by two stepdaughters, Mitzie McKinney of Hemet, Calif., and Jeannie Truke of Seaside, Ore.; eight step-grandchildren; and a number of relatives and friends. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Boise and Gideons International. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 607 N. 13th St., Boise, 83702, Gideons International, P.O. Box 4141, Boise, ID 83711 or a charity of your choice. Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 5, 2007 at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, Twin Falls, Idaho. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise.
