Born October 10, 1925, in Weldon, N.C., son of the late Neal Whitener and Mabel Tilghman Hahn He was member of Winter Park Baptist Church. Veteran of the US Army serving in WW II and a recipient of a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Member of St. John's Lodge AF&AM, Wilmington Scottish Rite, The Sudan Temple and Veterans of Foreign War. He retired from General Electric in the nuclear fuel division and also was a Barber.
Robert's devotion to his family and to his friends and his cheerful nature in fighting adversity and pain will always be remembered. He was bestowed with the gift of making friends and never met a stranger.
