"Ed Mudd 1922-2001

Ed Mudd, of Pearce, Sunsites, died on Sept. 8, 2001, at his home in Sunsites after a short bout with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family when he died at the age of 79. He was born on April 20, 1922, in Silex, Mo., to Alphonsus and Caroline (Mattingly) Mudd.

Ed was a retired insurance agent having owned and operated his own Independent Agency in Bridger, Mont. He proudly served in WW II in the US ArmyAir Corp, was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council and was past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Longmont, Colo. Ed had wintered in Sunsites and moved there permanently three years ago from Montana. On June 8, 1946, at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Webster Grove, Mo., he married Therese (Renard) Mudd. Ed was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and loved his family.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, a grandchild and a brother.

Ed is survived by his wife Therese of Sunsites; sons, Joseph (Patrice) Mudd of Orange County, Calif.; Dan (Lisa) Mudd of Salmon, Idaho; Lou (Catharine) Mudd of Green River, Wyo.; Bill (Torrie) Mudd of Phoenix, Ore.; Tom (Kathleen) Mudd of Bridger, Mont. and Andy (Angie) Mudd of Seattle, Wash.; daughters, Jeanie (Wally Graham) Mudd of Sante Fe, N.M.; Cathy (Marty Lord) Mudd of Helena, Mont. and Mary (Jay) Hayes of Woodbury, Minn.; brother, Dave Mudd of Long Island, N.Y.; 28 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A vigil for the deceased will be held today, Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m., at St. Jude Catholic Church in PearceSunsites with a funeral mass tomorrow, Sept. 13, at 10 a.m., at St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Pearce Cemetery in Pearce with military honors provided by DavisMonthan AFB Honor Guard. Contributions may be made to the St. Jude Catholic Church, Highway 191, Pearce, AZ 85625; or Charles W. Leighton, Jr. Hospice, 319 W. Grant, Willcox, AZ 85643.

Services were under the direction of Westlawn Chapel & Mortuary in Willcox."
