Walter Lee Batman, 80, of Waynesboro passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at his residence. He was born in Page County on March 6, 1937, a son of the late Virgil C. and Nora Bell Propes Batman.

Walter proudly served his country in the United States Armed Forces during the Korean War. He was retired from Wayne Texas. Walter greatly enjoyed doing yardwork, reading the bible, and going on short trips to the country.

In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Evelyn "Lucy" (Rankin) Batman; brothers, Granville and David Batman; sisters, Eva Auwater, Mary Fields, Annie Davis, and Frances Davis; step-son, Robert Duke; and a son-in-law, David Chester Fitzgerald.

Survivors include his children, Barbara Ann Fitzgerald and Ted Coakley and his wife, Pam; grandchildren, Travis Fitzgerald, Tressee Koloski, Robert "LB" Duke, Alyssa Duke, and Michelle Coakley; step-grandchildren, Mike Taylor and Mike Jacobs; great grandchildren, Cody and Ethan Koloski, Kayla and Devon Fitzgerald, Adelynn Simmons and Casey Duke; sisters, Virginia B. McCourry and Emma Belle Rankin; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Chad Grondin officiating. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Post 340 will follow at Augusta Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Steve Orebaugh, Mark Thomas, Kevin Simmons, W.C. Fields, Jimmy Fields and Nick Shearman.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Walter's memory to West Waynesboro Church of Christ, 2212 Cortland St., Waynesboro, VA 22980.
