Helen Marjorie (Pond) Welsh passed away early Sunday morning,February 25, 2007, at Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell, MT.

Helen, the oldest of eight siblings, was born on March 2,1919, to Cecil Evert Pond and Hazel Pearl (Betts) Pond in Caney, KS.

Her family moved to Oregon when she was 4 years old and she remained in Oregon and Idaho for most of her life, spending over 30 years in Keizer, OR.

On March 8, 1943, she married Edward "Eddie" Young Welsh in Pueblo, CO, and they were happily married for more than 54 years.  After Eddie's death in 1997, she remained in Keizer for a couple of years, and then lived with her oldest daughter, Joanne, for five years in Minnesota and Wisconsin. In August of 2004 she moved to Kalispell and into Immanuel Lutheran Home.  Being in Kalispell was a blessing to her and to all of her family because she was centrally located and able to have frequent visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Helen was a kind and compassionate person.  There was always room in her home for anyone in need, whether it was just for a meal or for shelter.  For years she and Eddie provided a half-way house for girls just out of reform school. Then it was various relatives in need of a temporary place to stay, service men who needed a home away from home, and co-workers who needed a helping hand.  Some would come for a few weeks and some would stay for months.

Helen loved the Lord and was a life-long member of the Christian Church.  She taught pre-schoolers in Sunday School for over 30 years.  She only quit when she could no longer sit on the floor with the children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six of her brothers and sisters, her husband, Eddie, a daughter, Rebecca Davenport, and a grandson, Trent Richardson.

She is survived by three daughters, Joanne Richardson and husband George of Worland, WY, Jeanne Renfrow and husband Doren of Kalispell, MT, Janice Thompson and husband Dave of Spokane, WA, and one son, John Welsh and wife Loretta of Boring, OR.  She is also survived by six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Martha Smith of Gueydan, LA, plus many nieces and nephews.

No public memorial service is planned.
