John E. Warren of Fort Myers died February 26, 2007. He was 92. He was predeceased by his wife, Emily. He is survived by his son, Andrew Warren of Pennsylvania, his daughter Gloria McIntee of Hallandale Beach, Florida, three grandchildren, Erin, Kelli Ann and Adam James and three great-grandchildren. In 1961 he was transferred to Patrick AFB, Florida as Chief of Department of Defense manned space flight support planning office to NASA's project mercury and Gemini. John served 30 years in the Air Force and retired in 1965 and moved to Fort Myers, Florida. John and his late wife, Emily traveled extensively visiting Hawaii, Mexico, the Far East, Alaska, Europe, Russia and other places. They made many cruises to the various islands in the Caribbean. John was a very distinguished mason and shriner. He was a charter member of Noah Lodge 357 of N. Fort Myers as well as a Scottish Rite and York Rite mason of Fort Myers, Florida. In 1967 he became a charter member of Araba Shrine Temple and in 1968 was appointed to the position of Captain of the Guard. In 1970 he was elected the recorder of Araba Temple as well as representative to the Imperial Council and was continuously re-elected to these positions for 15 years. He was elected at an Imperial Council Session in Boston as a representative-emeritus to the Imperial Council. He retired from his position as recorder and was elected Recorder-Emeritus by virtue of his long and faithful service to Araba Temple. He served as Treasurer of Araba Temple from 1985-1993. He served as Editor of the Temple "Palms" for five years and was serving as 1st Lieutenant Commander of the Legion of Honor prior to his election as Recorder. In 1970 he served on the Temple Building Committee during which time the committee was responsible for the expansion of the Temple which doubled the size of the Mosque. He was the Commander of Fort Myers Commandery of Knights Templar and in 1972 was appointed District Deputy Grand Commander, District 2 of Knights Templar in Florida. From 1974 to 1981 he served as Representative of the Grand Commander of Knights Templar of Florida to the Grand Commandery of the District of Columbia. He was a member of the York Rite Sovereign College of North America. In 1973 was honored with the York Rite Purple Cross and Ring. He was a member of the Royal Order of Scotland; a Life Member and Past President of the National Sojourners, Chapter 503; a Past Commander of the Hero's of 76; a member of the Royal American Shrine Club; and Honorary member and Past Secretary of the Fort Myers Cabiri 161 of Past Potentates; and an active member of the Imperial Council Election Tellers Committee since 1970. He was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Court 170 and Honorary member of R.O.J., Court 112, Mexico City. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science Degree and graduate of George Washington University where he received his Master's Degree in Business Administration. He graduated from the Air Force Institute of Technology, Air Tactical School, Air Force Command and Staff College and retired from the Air Force in 1965 with the rank of Colonel. He served both World War II and the Korean War and he was the recipient of many military decorations including the Legion of Merit. Prior to his retirement, he served from 1961 to 1965 with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Man-In-Space programs; specially, projects Mercury and Gemini and was the Director of the D.O.D. Operational and Support Planning Office to NASA. In this position he was also responsible for the preparation and administration of multi-million dollar budgets for the military support of these specific projects.
