Surviving sister, Mrs. Julia Cuttz, resided at New Haven, Conn.

His brother was the famed bird and butterfly collector, William Doherty. He was born in Cincinnati May 15, 1857 and died of dysentery in Nigeria in 1901. I know this because in researching William, I found an article from the Washington Post date May 8, 1898 where William delivered plans to Dewey and the article states that William is the son of James Monroe Doherty of Cincinnati, a railway manager.

The Bellingham Herald (WA) 19 May 1922, Fri

John H. Doherty, a pioneer resident of South Bellingham, was found dead in his room in the Mason block, Twelfth street and Harris avenue, shortly after noon today. Indications were that he had been dead for several days. The body was found by Patrolman Bert Ringler and an investigation was made by Mrs. Max Mehlig, acting for County Coroner Mehlig, who is out of the city.

Mr. Doherty had made his home in the Mason block for about thirty years, it was reported. He worked years ago as a bookkeeper in the county treasurer's office and later was employed in a similar capacity by the Pacific American Fisheries and other companies. Papers found in his room showed that a sister, Mrs. Clara D. Hart, resides at Washington, D.C. He had no relatives here, so far as known, although he was well known among old timers in Fairhaven.

It is believed that he was about 57 years of age.
