Stanley "Stan" P. Howard, Jr., loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, age 94, of Waco, Texas, passed away on July 12, 2017. A family graveside service at Waco Memorial Park is planned for a day in the future when family members are able to attend.

Stan was born on December 20, 1922, in Jefferson City, Missouri. He was reared and educated there. Upon graduation he came to Waco to attend Baylor University. He was a graduate of Baylor and Southwestern Theological Seminary. He married Patsy McGee of Kilgore, Texas, on September 5, 1948. After serving several churches in Texas, he and his wife were appointed to serve as missionaries to Japan by the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in October 1949, arriving there in early January 1950. They served in Japan until December 1986, when they returned to Waco for a final furlough and then retirement beginning on January 1, 1988. His major involvements in retirement were with the First Baptist Church of Waco, Kiwanis Club of Waco Seniors, and Cottonwood Creek Seniors Golf group. Throughout his life, Stan loved people unconditionally and kept his eyes on Jesus. (John 21:17 " ... Lord, You know all things; You know that I love you. Jesus said to him, ‘Tend my sheep.’"

Stan is survived by his wonderful, loving and caring wife, Pat; daughter, Linda Bland and husband, Jim, of Waco; son, Stanley III and wife, Loan, of Tokyo, Japan; and two fine grandsons, Justin Thauwald of Tokyo, and Nathan Thauwald and wife, Chelsea, and three sweet great granddaughters of Tyler, Texas.
