Betty Christopherson was born February 10, 1927 on the family farm in rural Vermillion to Walter and Alice (Brown) Christopherson. She graduated from Vermillion High School in 1946 and married Lowell Hansen on November 18, 1956 in Vermillion. She worked for Northwestern Telephone company from 1946-1957, USD Admissions from 1964-1997 and then retired for a second time from the State of South Dakota after working for Enrollment Services for the SD Board of Regents after eight years.
Betty loved being around family and friends and would never miss a game played by her granddaughters or in earlier years by her son or daughter (Go Tanagers). She was a great fan of the USD Coyotes, the Minnesota Twins and the Vikings. She was always available to play a game of Pinochle and saved up all year to make her sister/cousin trips to Vegas or Branson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lowell her sisters; Geraldine Adamson, Joyce Ashmore, Bonnie Hustrulid and Cleo Christopherson.
She is survived by her son Kevin (Rae Lynn) Hansen of Show Low, AZ and Leanne Brown of Vermillion, three grandchildren; Alicia Brown of Sioux Falls, Stephanie Hansen of Tucson, AZ and Julia (Trevor) Tinkel of Show Low and one great granddaughter Alexis Tinkel. Betty was also survived by her sister Lela Kruse of Vermillion, sisters-in-law Gwen Johnson and Gwen Hansen of Forest Lake, MN and Janet Gilbertson of Austin, MN.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, May 7 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion with burial to follow in the Bluffview Cemetery in Vermillion. Visitation will be Friday, May 6 from 5-7 PM at the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion.
