Gladys Matthews Kirkland - SAVANNAH - Gladys Matthews Kirkland, 76, of Savannah, GA passed away suddenly at Memorial Health University Medical Center Friday, March 6, 2009. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, dancing, puzzles, cooking and family get togethers. She had a sharp memory, believed in speaking her mind, was honest, hard working and dependable. She was raised in the Baptist faith. In her younger days she loved going to the beach and visiting her parents in the country. Gladys was employed with Custom Cleaners, Central Motors and Globe Auto Parts. Upon retirement she became a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, W.J. and Dicie Matthews, Sr.; brother, W. J. Matthews, Jr.; two sisters, Dorothy Martin and Margie Sanderson. She is survived by three sons, Ron Matthews (Cheryl) of Richmond Hill, GA, Ricky Henley (Mary) of Statesboro, GA, Randall Henley (Cindy) of Highland Village, TX; one daughter, Lynne Henley Stevens (Dink) of Savannah, GA; two sisters, Helen Bolin of Pooler, GA and Linda Beasley of Savannah, GA; one grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, an almost daughter (niece) Beverly Gadziemski and the love of her life granddaughter Peyton Mizelle. Visitation: 3-5 p.m., Sunday, March 8, 2009 at Fairhaven Funeral Home. Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Monday, March 9, 2009 at Fairhaven Funeral Home with Rev.Gary Quinney officiating. Interment will follow at Lower Black Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
