Peter A. Darling Sr. of Stratham, N.H., and Chilmark, died on March 19. He was 85. He was the son of A. Graeme and Julia (Crump) Darling of Schenectady, N.Y.

Pete was a graduate of Deerfield Academy and Colgate University. He served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1953. After his service, he worked for Scott Paper Co. for 34 years in Texas, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Maine.

Windway in Chilmark was his home since 1941, after summering in various towns on the Island since 1934. Pete’s love for fishing and pride in maintaining the history of Martha’s Vineyard has been passed onto his children and grandchildren.

Pete was a devoted husband, father and grandfather to his family.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Martha’s Vineyard this summer.
