Alberta Jackson Constans
Alberta Jackson Constans passed away on June 30, 2017 in Ontario, OR.
Alberta was born Dec. 1, 1919 in St. Louis, MO. to Izora (Peggy) Black and William Robert (Bob) Jackson. Bob, Peggy and little Alberta migrated from poor farmer conditions in MO to Portland, OR. where her dad got a job delivering ice door to door. In 1925, Alberta was joined by a sister, Wilma Jackson Webb, and these two would remain close and would raise children together. Alberta’s education was completed in Portland, including Business College. World War II was looming on the horizon when Alberta met and married Warren Reade Constans in Reno, NV on Mar. 12, 1941. Each was then involved in the war efforts. Warren was stationed on the Aleutian Islands at Dutch Harbor, AK and Alberta resided with his parents in Astoria, OR and worked as a switch board operator.

By 1945 the two had joined up in New Jersey where Warren was sent until released from service. The two bundled up a new born baby and in an old car drove across the United States to Weiser, ID where Alberta’s folks were now living. Warren was offered a job there so there they settled and ultimately built a home and began raising five children. Alberta was a superb homemaker having learned from her mother how to cook from scratch, bake, can food, sew and live on a meager income.

The family enjoyed visits with friends and relatives, board and card games, picnics, camping, and hunting. Alberta and Warren were swimmers and walkers, and Alberta spent countless hours supporting her children in swimming lessons and swim meets. She held positions in service organizations; PTA, Girl Scout Leader, 1st Christian Church Crusaders, running election voting booths, church camp cook, and took care of others’ children as well.

Jobs took these folks to McCall, to Rainier, OR and Longview, WA and in retirement years they owned a place in Fruitland, Idaho, next to her folks. In her 60s and 70s she took up photography and painting and was very proficient at both. Her children cherish her artwork. Alberta became caretaker of her parents as they aged and later of her devoted husband, Warren. Alberta modeled to her family how one should live life. She accepted everyone for who they were, always enjoyed a good time, welcomed all to her home, was forever organized and walked with God.

Alberta is survived by her children, Marc (Nadine Nakamura) Constans, Diane Constans, Dan (Denise McKenzie) Constans, Bobbi (David Collett) Collett, and Sue (James Manser), Manser. She has 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Alberta was the force that kept the family together for so many years. As children, we are forever grateful to her and our father for providing such a wonderful childhood. That is their legacy.
