Helen C. [Kepl] Piette passed away Sunday, September 15, 2013 at the Kewaunee Care Center. Helen was born in Kewaunee on October 22, 1912 to Charles [originally Karel] and Louisa [Aloisia Podstatna] Kepl. She attended the Kewaunee Public Schools and graduated in 1930. On July 18, 1949, she married the love of her life, Donald Piette in Dubuque, Iowa. They enjoyed to the fullest 64 years together and Helen always gave Donnie and his special care of her the credit for her reaching her 100th Birthday. During her working years, Helen worked at several jobs including many years at the dental office of Dr. Gordon Dishmaker. Her final job was in the office at Leyse Aluminum. She and Donnie retired in 1974. Helen enjoy bowling for many years, starting at the lanes at Hlinak's and Taddy's, later Pelnar's. She was a fan of the Packers, Badger Football and especially Badger Basketball. Helen had been a Girl Scout leader, a member of the VFW Auxiliary and an officer of her bowling league. Helen and her smile made friends wherever she went and anyone she met became an immediate friend. She loved nothing better than telling stories and after 100 years, had a lot of them. She would tell of starting school speaking only Bohemian, adjusting to all the changes that came along. She saw every silent movie, usually two or three times because she went to the theater with her father when he played the violin for the silent movies. She recalled seeing the Celebration at the end of World War I and enjoyed being praised for her perfect penmanship. Helen is survived by her husband Donnie, her daughter Virginia [Kepl] Kostka, 2 grandsons, 5 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are sister-in-law Lillian Piette. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law Marion and Carl Anderson, son-in-law Robert Kostka, granddaughter Jane [Kostka] Maier; Donnie's parents Henry and Ruby Piette and his brother Darrell Piette. Memorial service held at Buchanan Funeral Home on Thursday, September 19.
