Olin S. "Mountain Man" Bloye Sr. (1921 - 2013)

ALLEGANY - Olin S. "Mountain Man" Bloye Sr. of 4557 Five Mile Road passed away Sunday (July 28, 2013) at the Bradford Manor.

Born Oct. 24, 1921, in Humphrey, he was a son of Arthur and Dora Moffet Bloye. On July 20, 1949, in Loganton, Pa., he married Betty Karchner, his wife of the past 64 years, who survives.

Mr. Bloye was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He first worked for 16 years at W. H. Hall Co. in Allegany from 1949 until 1965. He was a longtime member of the Teamster's Union and worked for Arason Co. in Arcade for three years and drove heavy equipment during the construction of the Olean Highway Extension in 1965. Additionally, he worked for Gramco Feed Mill in Franklinville as a truck driver prior to his retirement. While holding these jobs, he also ran a 140-acre dairy farm in Franklinville for 37 years. His big heart and loving, giving nature made him a good provider and one who would share the bounty of his annual garden produce with the less fortunate and help anyone with his "jack-of-all-trades" abilities. Upon retirement he and his wife moved to Alabama for 20 years, returning to Allegany in 2002.

Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Kathleen (Clifford) Withey of Allegany; two sons, Olin (Cora) Bloye Jr. of Montgomery, Ala., and Stephen Bloye of Oklahoma City; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Harold Bloye; and a brother, Harmon Bloye.
