CORNELIA RUTH DICKERSON TOWNS

Mrs. Ruth Towns, age 91, a longtime resident of the Nickajack Community died at 4:15 a.m. Tuesday morning September 13, 2016 at the Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage where she had made her home since September 30, 2008.

Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home were conducted

by Eld. Charles Allen Gentry on Thursday afternoon September 15th. Burial followed the 1 p.m. services in the Pleasant Shade Cemetery.

The last surviving of four children, she was born Cornelia Ruth Dickerson in Pleasant Shade on February 1, 1925 and was the daughter of the late Robert David “Bob” Dickerson who died February 11, 1956 at the age of 64 and Nellie “Nell” Myrtle Givens Dickerson who died January 19, 1973 at the age of 72.

Mrs. Towns was preceded in death by all three of her siblings, Robert Bradford Dickerson who died in Michigan, Vernice Edward “Bunk” Dickerson Sr. who died at the age of 76 on August 20, 1996 and Mildred Dickerson Reed who died at the age of 72 on August 13, 1995.

Mrs. Towns was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Johnson Towns, who preceded her in death on September 8, 1974 at the age of 52.

She was a nurse aid at the former Gregory Convalescent Home in Carthage.

Mrs. Towns church membership was at the former Pleasant Shade Church of God of Prophecy.

Never having had any children, she is only survived by seven nieces and nephews, Eld. Junior Dickerson, Allen “Ozzie” Dickerson, David Reed, Sherry Reed Keisling, Elaine Reed Goolsby, Robert and Robbie Dickerson.
