Patrick Joseph O'Connor, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017, at his home in Gilbert, Ariz.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Pat was born on Feb. 22, 1940, in Sioux City, to Byron and Elizabeth (Huls) O'Connor. He grew up attending St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from Heelan High School in 1957. Pat studied for one year at Wayne State College. He was a member of the Air National Guard until the spring of 1963.

Pat married Judy Lorenzen on July 1, 1961. They made their home in Sioux City, where they raised four amazing children. They moved to Gilbert in July 2009.

Pat worked at Sioux City Dressed Pork for nine years before joining the Sioux City Police Department in December 1967. He worked as a patrolman, and was a member of the K-9 unit with his dog, Gringo. He also worked in the ID department and the detective bureau. Pat retired in February 1995.

He enjoyed many hobbies including golf, horseback riding, boating, camping, weight lifting, computers, farming, bike riding and photography.

Pat is survived by his wife, Judy; four children, Chell (Greg) Amsler, Tara (Brad) Bertrand, Kimberly (Pete) Truxaw, and Jerry (Emily) O'Connor; 12 grandchildren, Colin, Caroline, and Claire Amsler, Christopher Strub, Parker, Connor, and Cameron Shellhammer, Drew, Jack and Sam Truxaw, Ryann and McCade O'Connor; two stepgrandchildren, Morgan and Blake Bertrand; one great-granddaughter, Delaney Bertrand-Jones; stepmother, Arlynn O'Connor; four stepsisters; one stepbrother; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Max.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Stella.
