Cristina Teresa Bahr, 66, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016. She resided in the Charlottesville area, near Zion Crossroads. Although ill for many years, her death was unexpected, yet peaceful, as she slipped away from heart failure.
Cristina was born to Jan T. Ciechomski and Halina Halicki (Rydell) Ciechomski on March 18, 1950 in Curitiba, Brazil. Officially, her birthday has always been on the 18th, but she always said that she was born on March 6th. Her parents both fled from Poland after World War II to raise their family in Brazil. Cristina was pre-deceased by her older brother, Richard Jerry Ciechomski.
Growing up in Brazil, Cristina loved playing in the fields and woods, has always loved children, animals, plants, enjoyed sketching, and serving others. Raised Catholic, she always had a love of our Savior, Jesus Christ. She embodied many Christ-like qualities in her love, forgiveness, and service to others. She married Paulo R. Bahr in Curitiba on April 13, 1973. Soon after, the couple moved to East Meadow, New York where their son Kenneth was born. After Paulo finished medical school, Cristina and Paulo moved with their young son to Omaha and then Lincoln, Nebraska.
In the late 70's Cristina and Paulo divorced. Upon finding herself a single mother, Cristina was determined to gain more education and graduated from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. In 1984, Cristina moved with her son Kenneth to Charlottesville, Virginia. She worked for Comdial Credit Union and RGIS Inventory Specialists for many years. Cristina became a grandmother in 2006 with the birth of her grandson, Miles Kenneth Bahr and again in 2010, granddaughter Lily Michelle Bahr (deceased).
Cristina was a wonderful mother and grandmother, who always put the needs of her family before her own. Truly, she always went out of her way to make sure those she loved were happy. Cristina believed strongly in education, and she was a huge support for Kenneth in his college pursuits. Brave, courageous, adventurous, good with tools and her hands, a wonderful cook, hardworking, kind, enduring versus adversity, and always loving.
Cristina has been united with her mother, father, brother, and granddaughter. She is survived by her son Kenneth Bahr, her daughter-in-law Melissa, her grandson Miles Kenneth, her sister-in-law Elizabeth Ciechomski, nephews and niece Richard Jr, Robert, and Evelyn Ciechomski, and her sweet Pixie-Kitty. Cristina is greatly loved and is greatly missed.
A graveside service will be held in her honor at Monticello Memory Gardens on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 10 a.m.
