Mr. Herina was a resident of Seal Beach, California since 1985. Born in Wallington, New Jersey, he resided in Garfield, New Jersey prior to relocating to California. He served in the United States Navy and was a graduate of the Chicago Medical Technical School. Prior to retirement, he was employed as an inspector with the Okonite Manufacturing plant, was the President of the City of Garfield Board of Health for a number of years and worked in the family owned pharmacy, Shippee's Pharmacy, in Wanaque, New Jersey. The family were proud of their parents and their ancestral village of Ujak (now called Udol) Slovakia and had a large portrait of their parents on the pharmacy wall interior in remembrance. Stephen's parents and family were parishioners of Saint Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Cathedral, Passaic, NJ.


He was pre-deceased by his parents, Stephen and Mary (Fengya) Herina, his brothers John and George, and sisters Rose and Helen. At the time of his death, he was survived by his sister Margaret Breznak, his brother Peter and other extended family members. He was interred with military honors at Riverside National Military Cemetery in Riverside, California and a Memorial Mass was held at Saint Michael's Greek (Byzantine) Catholic Chapel, Woodland Park, New Jersey.
