Dwight Ethridge, a resident of Abbeville, died late Saturday night, July 22, 2017, at his home. He was 72.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 26, 2017, in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery, Capps Community, with Reverend Otis Derrah and Reverend Ray S. Reiley officiating and eulogies to be given by friends. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary in Abbeville.

Dwight Ethridge was a lifelong resident of Henry County, son of the late John Mack Ethridge and Imogene Herndon Ethridge.

He was a 1963 graduate of Abbeville High School. In earlier years, he served his country in the Army Reserve Unit in Abbeville.

Dwight was of the Missionary Baptist faith and was affiliated with the Adoniram Baptist Church.

He was engaged in farming all his life and was employed by SunSouth in Abbeville.

Dwight was well known for his peanut farming and operated a successful farming operation on the family farm.

He loved John Deere tractors and enjoyed sharing his knowledge about farm equipment and farming.

Dwight was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, bird and deer hunting.

In his later years, he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and work ethics with the younger generation.

Dwight was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Armstrong.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Linda McCoy Ethridge, a daughter, Abbie Ethridge Hutto (Jay), all of Abbeville; a son, Brian Ethridge (Jennifer), Birmingham; four grandchildren, Jackson Ethridge, Dawson Ethridge, Connor Hutto and Claire Hutto; nieces, Angie Armstrong Stinson (Ray) and Kayce Costin (Mark); a nephew, Brad Knox (Alicia); a great-nephew, Sam Stinson; a sister-in-law, Ruby Sue McCoy Knox (Greg), Port St. Joe, FL.; aunts, Clyde Hall and Bess Schadron, an uncle, Tom Ethridge.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Brad Knox, Mark Costin, Pete Barnes, Coy Strickland, Wayne Scott, Eric Frye and Tim Whitehead.
