Postmaster Dies
Canastota's Postmaster DeVerne A, Lewis, 65, died at the Canastota Memorial Hospital last Thursday at 5:30 a.m. Postmaster Lewis had been at his duties in the post office until about a week ago. Since then he was confined to his home, by an asthmatic heart condition, which grew critical Wednesday afternoon. When he was removed to the hospital for special oxygen treatment.
On February 15, 1934. Mr. Lewis was appointed postmaster for Canastota by President Roosevelt, succeeding former Postmaster John H. Roberts. He continued to act as postmaster since that time.
