Helen Lee Bannerman
February 29, 1916 - July 9, 2017
Burlingame

Helen Lee Bannerman was born on Leap Year Day, 1916, to George and Elizabeth Bannerman in Neenah, WI. She grew up in Manitowoc, WI, with her brother Douglas and sister Betty. After high school graduation, she began working at the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company. During WWII she headed the clerical staff for the Electric Boat Company of Connecticut, which had contracted with Manitowoc to build twenty-eight submarines on Lake Michigan. Twenty-five of them saw service in the war.

After WWII she worked for Western Condensing Company of Appleton, WI, then in 1950 she started working for Continental Can Corporation in Milwaukee. She continued there until her retirement in 1982.

Once she retired, she moved to Burlingame, CA, to be close to her sister, Betty Maldari, and her family. In retirement she traveled and volunteered at Mills Peninsula Hospital where she died on July 9, 2017 at the age of 101.

Many thanks to her friends, Brita and Astrid, and her caregivers, particularly Gloria, who kept her happy, healthy, and in her own apartment to the end.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews and their families.

No service is planned. She will be buried next to her parents in Manitowoc in the fall.
