A son of Mary Pi'ilani Duncan by her second husband, Thomas E. Cook Sr., Joseph was married to Macaria Buen Santos** on 25 Jan 1928 at Manila.

The father one known child, Nelita, the divorced Joseph returned to Honolulu with his daughter aboard the ship President Taft on 07 Oct 1936.

His widowed sister, Ellen Adelia Kenway, adopted Nelita, who was enumerated with Ellen and Joseph's eldest brother, Frank Cook, on the 1940 census at Honolulu.

He was enumerated on the 1940 census at a boarding house in Honolulu's Buckle Lane. He listed himself as divorced, working as a watchman at an office building.

In 1942, Joseph registered for the WWII draft. He was then unemployed and residing at Punahou School's Castle Hall. He listed his next-of-kin as his brother, James D. Cook of Honolulu.

JOSEPH COOK DIES.
Joseph Cook, 78, of 1717 Meyers St., died in a local hospital at 10:30 a.m. yesterday.

A requiem low mass will be held at St. Theresa's church at 9:30 a.m. today. The funeral procession leaves Nuuanu Funeral Parlors at 9:20 a.m. Burial, following the mass, will be at Puea cemetery.

Mr. Cook was born April 30, 1877, on Hawaii. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John D. (Nelita Kenway) Perry; two sisters, Mrs. Ellen A. Kenway and Mrs. Bernice Irwin, and two grandchildren. --The Honolulu Star-Advertiser (Honolulu, Hawaii); Thursday, 08 Sep 1955; pg. C-5, col. 3
