Last week's Mound City Republic announced the death of Mrs. Sarah J. Adams, mother of M. M. Adams of Kincaid, which occurred at the old family home near Wesley Chapel, Linn County, December 15, 1920 at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 22 days. She is survived by 7 sons, 3 daughters, 29 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She and her husband, the late John Quincy Adams, were amoung the pioneer settlers of Linn county.

Sarah J. Wilson is recorded as age 17 in the 1850 Washington, Decatur, Indiana census with John D. Wilson, 40, and Sarah, 38, and four siblings.

Sarah Jane Wilson married John Q. Adams January 22, 1856 in Decatur County. (Indiana marriage index) J. Q. Adams, 30, born in Massachusetts, and Sarah, 22, born in Indiana, are recorded in the 1860 Mound City, Linn, Kansas Territory census with two young children born in Indiana.

Sarah is recorded with her husband from 1860 to 1885 in Linn County, Kansas. She remained in Paris Township, Linn County, Kansas. and is recorded without her husband in the 1895 state census with Bruce, 21; Don Leon, 16; Myrtle M., 13; & Robert C., 10. Robert Clyde is recorded as a male infant, 1 month old, in the 1885 Linn County, Kansas state census.

Sarah J. Adams, 71, is recorded with her son. R. C. Adams, and her daughter-in-law, Hattie, in the 1910 Paris, Linn, Kansas census. Sarah is listed on the same page as her son, R. Clyde, and her daughter, Myrtle McRae, (Mrs. Walter McRae) and their families in the 1915 state census.

Sarah is recorded as age 81 in the 1920 Paris, Linn, Kansas census with her son, (Robert) Clyde, and his family. The 1900 census records her as the mother of ten children, all living.

The death date entered above is found in several Ancestry family trees.

Sarah's daughter, Myrtle May., married Walter McRae February 20, 1901 in Linn County, (Kansas, County Marriages Index) They resided in Linn County, Kansas through 1930. Myrtle is recorded as a widow in the 1940 census. Several of their children are buried in Linn County, but the burial locations of Walter & Myrtle McRae have not been entered on this website. Ancestry family information records Myrtle's death in 1948.

Sarah's son, John Q, Adams, Jr., is recorded in Colorado in 1900 and in Los Angeles County, California in 1910. Several of his children are buried there and John Q. Adams, Jr., who was born in Indiana, is probably buried there, also. He had been married to his second wife for 4 years in the 1910 census and is recorded as age 73 in the 1930 census.
