Joseph R. Burnett, Sr., 86, of Hillsville, formally of Bedford, passed away on July 10, 2015. Joe was a Korean War Veteran and served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. He worked for many years and retired from Ayers Lumber Companyin Bedford. He was preceded in death by his Father and Mother, Ewuell Acree and Mary Jim Burnett, of Bedford, one son, Rodney (Roddy) Allen Burnett, of Hillsville; two brothers, John William (Bill) Burnett, of Villamont and Charles C. Burnett, of Vinton. He is survived by two sons; Joseph Richard (Ricky) Burnette, Jr. (Miriam), of Roanoke, Roderick (Rocky) Clayton Burnette (Lynette), of Kennesaw, GA and one daughter, Dawn Renee Burnette Groseclose, of Hillsville and one "special daughter-in-law", Debra Jean Webb of Hillsville. Four brothers: James Burnett of Bedford, Everett Burnett (Etta) of Bedford, VA, Harvey Burnett (Edna) of Roanoke, Ray Burnett (Hazel) of Goode, and a sister, Molly Catron of Bedford. Grandchildren are Roxanne Foster (Trevor) of Kennesaw GA, Jacklyn Stanley (Matthew) of Hillsville, Zachery Burnette of Goode, Corey Burnette (Lena) of Kennesaw GA, Lindsey Burnette, of Roanoke, and Jennifer Lawson (Andy)of Hillsville. Pa Pa Joe is also survived by seven Great Grandchildren, Keller, Lila, and Crew Foster, of Kennesaw GA, Braydon Burnette and Macon Murch, of Bedford, Lilly Burnette, of Kennesaw GA and Christian Burnette, of Roanoke and Baby Lawson due in November 2015. Graveside services were held on Monday, July 13, 2015 at Greenwood Cemetery, Bedford at 3 pm, Pastor Phillip Kelley of Timber Ridge Baptist Church officiating. Military rites were conducted by American Legion.
