Richard Eugene (Gene) Bailey, of Holden Beach, NC formerly of Pageton, WV died peacefully on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Affectionately known as Beetle he was born February 26, 1929 in Goodwill, West Virginia in Mercer County the son of the late Mary Bane Arrington Bailey and Hector Bryan Bailey. He worked in the coal mining industry and was a proud member of the UMWA. He was also a veteran of the US Army.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Leonard (Wink) Bailey and his sister Betty Pompie.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Sue Wilson Bailey, and his four children, Glenna Bailey and Ann Marie Bailey of Huntington, WV, Lynne Bailey and husband Rick Small of Greensboro, NC, John (Skip) Bailey and wife Marsha of Maynardville, TN, grandson Brian Bailey and wife Amanda, and great-grandson Chase Bailey, of Indianapolis, IN, a sister Virginia (Gert) Bailey Yost of Dundalk , MD, a brother Earl Bailey Sr. of Lawton, OK as well as a large extended family.

The Bailey family will receive friends and relative on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, West Virginia between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Graveside services to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, at 1:00 p.m. in Bluewell, West Virginia. Where the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites.
