Edwin Thomas was a New York City 4th Ward tattooer and a contemporary of Martin Hildebrandt and Stephen Lee.

Throughout the 1880s his tattooing career garnered ample publicity. The press also widely covered his attempted murder on Jennie Connors, an ex-lover he had also tattooed.

Thomas was also a ship carpenter, and before he became well-known as a tattoo artist, he was a notorious thief in the New York City's lower east side. Read more about his history on my website Buzzworthy Tattoo History: "Edwin Thomas: Infamous Bowery Tattooer"
