Fr. Ungarsky served as pastor of the Slovak ethnic parish, Roman Catholic Holy Trinity Church, 2428 Elyria Avenue, Lorain OH, for 22 years, from 1955 - 1977; retiring after 45 years total service to the Church.

Fr. Ungarsky was ordained by Archbishop Joseph Schrembs, for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland OH, in May, 1932.

Fr. Ungarsky's retirement was effective 3/12/1977. He had surpassed the mandatory retirement age of 70 for diocesan priests.

Father concelebrated Mass at Lorain Holy Trinity on Sunday March 20, 1977 at 9:30 a.m. with Rev. Fr. George Lawrence. A farewell reception for Fr. Ungarsky was held that day from 3 - 6 p.m. at the American Slovak Home on Broadway in Lorain.

Fr. Ungarsky was succeeded by Rev. George B. Lawrence, pastor of Assumption Church, Broadview Heights OH. Fr. Lawrence had served as an associate pastor at Lorain Holy Trinity from 1952 - 1956. [Fr. Lawrence baptized me in December, 1952!]

Fr. Lawrence, ordained in 1937, had been pastor at Assumption Church since 1966. Previously, he had served as pastor at St. Ladislas, Cleveland OH, for six years, and administrator of St. Martin for four years. He also served as associate pastor at St. Wendelin, Euclid OH St. Paul, and St. Ignatius.

Fr. Ungarsky's first assignment was as associate pastor at St. Boniface Church, 9811 Denison Avenue, Cleveland OH, 44102, from 6/17/1932 - 7/8/1937.

Fr. Ungarsky's second assignment, 7/9/1937, was as assistant pastor at St. Anthony Church, Fairport Harbor, OH. In January 1944, he was named administrator, "vicarius oeconomes", i.e., "deputy finance", at St. Ladislas, Cleveland.

Fr. Ungarsky was assigned as pastor of St. Ladislas in 1945. In addition, he was appointed chaplain of the Cleveland district, First Catholic Slovak Union, on 4/29/1945. The district included Elyria OH and Lorain OH.

He served as pastor of Cleveland St. Ladislas until appointment 12/31/1954, by Archbishop Edward F. Hoban, as pastor of Lorain Holy Trinity Church.

The Right Rev. Msgr. John Kendrac, pastor of Lorain Holy Trinity since February, 1941, resigned in December 1954 due to illness. Fr. Ungarsky was assigned as Fr. Kendrac's replacement.
