Young Man Called Hence--VALPARAISO VISITOR--Once more the death angel has visited our community and called one of our Valparaiso young men just in the prime of life. Oscar Daniel Hendrix, son of Mr. & Mrs. C.H. Hendrix, was born at Ashland, September 2, 1882, and passed quietly away at the home of his parents in Valparaiso; on Saturday, June 15, 1918, at the age of 35 years, nine months and 13 days. Oscar has lived in Valparaiso for the last 23 years following the occupation of a carpenter also telephone lineman and just before his last illness he was employed in bridge construction work near Cheyenne, Wyoming. Oscar had been in poor health for almost a year retiring home because of sickness. Everything was done for him that medical skill, care and loving attention could accomplish but all to no purpose and he gradually failed until death closed the door of suffering earthly existance and opened the door of an eternal existance. A little brother, LeRoy, under three years of age, preceded him into the other world. In the sad and untimely death of Oscar Hendrix, a father and mother are left to mourn his loss with only one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Fritzinger, of Hoquiem, Washington, and six brothers Howard C., George L., Edwin Earl, Ivan R., Joseph F., soldier boy at Camp Funston and Alva B., also soldier boy now on his way to France. He also leaves many other relatives and a large number of personal friends and associates. The funeral services were held from the M.E. church at 2 p.m., Thursday, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.W. Waits after which the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Valparaiso cemetery.
