Stephen Paul Cusulos, age 68, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, fell asleep in the Lord on July 29, 2017. Stephen was born in Sioux Falls to Angeline (Chaus) and Paul Stephen Cusulos on May 2, 1949. He moved to Denver as a child. Stephen served in and retired out of the US Military. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with V device for Valor, German Medal of Honor, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Combat Medic Badge and Combat Infantry Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Rigger Badge, Parachute Badge, British Army Parachute Badge, and Jungle Expert Patch. Included in his many areas of military service was Special Operations.
In 1972 Stephen married Despina Kyriakos of Sioux Falls, S.D., and they were blessed with a son Palaiologos. Stephen was a loving and devoted husband and father. He attended Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology and St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary. He graduated from Augustana College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He was an active member of Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church. One of Stephen’s favorite pastimes was riding his Harley.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Despina, son Palaiologos (Dorothy), brothers Rev. Father John and Larry (Elaine), nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, August 3, at Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church. Interment will be in Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Visitation begins at 5:00 pm Wednesday, August 2, at Miller Funeral Home, Main Avenue location. The family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home, with a Trisagion Prayer Service beginning at 7:00 pm.
