When Wesley arrived in Vietnam 16 February 1968, he was assigned to Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division.
During a combat operation the Golf Company command post was attacked by hostile forces, 7 kilometers west northwest of Dien Ban, Golf Company lost 4 Marines during the fire fight. Wesley died from multiple fragmentation wounds to the head and body from a hostile explosive device.
Survived by his wife, Alexia L Baughman of Rural Route #2, Box 102, Dallas, Oregon and his father; Wesley G Baughman Jr of 1611 Clay St, Dallas, Oregon and his mother; Phyllis C Baughman of unknown address.
