She was born in Altoona, Pa., and raised in Alexandria, where she graduated from St. Mary's Academy. She was a secretary at the General Accounting Office in the 1940s.
She was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and volunteered at the school.
Her husband, George Harvey Acton, died in 1981.
Survivors include six children, George Acton Jr. of Arlington, John Acton of Hughesville, Karen Beckner of Glen Allen, Va., Gregory Acton of Fort Washington, Gerald Acton of Marathon, Fla., and Janice Smith of Columbus, Ind.; two brothers; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
