[Page 1]

Mrs. Coralin Gifford was born Coralin Fessenden in Illinois, Jan. 29, 1847 and spent her girlhood in the town of Porter near Janesville, Wis. Here she was married at the home of her father Christmas Day 1865, to Harvey Norton Gifford of Reedsburg.

They lived near Reedsburg where Mr. Gifford owned a sawmill for about twenty years. About 1888 the family moved to Elroy where he conducted a sawmill for some time and in his later years managed the city delivery. He built the home at Brooklyn from which the Gifford family has been identified with the life of Elroy for a good many years.

Here Mrs. Gifford brought up her family and was a loyal helpmate to her husband. She reared a family of four children and her watchful care extended to her children's children, having reared her grandson, Malcolm Scofield from babyhood to young manhood. She was interested in the affairs of a growing city and a host of friends attest to the fact that she was a true friend and good neighbor, always ready to offer aid.

She was preceded in death by her son, Lewis, daughter, Nora and by her husband. She saw her children and her grandson grow up and become self-supporting, and about ten years ago, went to Chicago with her daughter, Alma. But she always kept in close touch with Elroy friends and Elroy interests, where she still owned her home and was a member of Plymouth Congregational church.

About two weeks ago the flu attacked Mrs. Gifford in Chicago and complications following resulted in her death January 25, 1930, just four days before she would have been 83. She was brought to Elroy where services were conducted by the Rev. Robert Johnson at Plymouth church Monday, and burial was beside her husband and children here.

She is survived by her daughter, Alma, Chicago, son Ashley and family of La Crosse, and grandson, Malcolm Scofield, of Brighton Colo.
