Born in Hutchinson, KS, Dodie graduated from Colorado Women's College in 1957 and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas in 1959. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and the Junior League of Kansas City. She enjoyed two separate careers: an elementary teacher at Cherokee Elementary in Overland Park and later as a sales associate at Talbots in Hawthorne Plaza.
Dodie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Minnette Gaeddert.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph "Smokey" Ensley; two sons, Michael Ensley and family of Sudbury, MA and Christopher Ensley and family of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Her two grandchildren are James Ensley and Olivia Ensley. She is also survived by a sister and brother-inlaw, Donna and Bob Brewster of Spokane, WA, two nieces and a nephew.
"Dodie" was a legendary example of courage and dignity. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Memorial service will be held Monday, July 14, at 5:30 p.m. at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. Private family graveside service in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
