James Harold Absher, 70, of Church Hill, went to be with the Lord peacefully at his home with his family by his side.

James was born on, January 24, 1947 in Norton, Virginia to the late Elmer and Ruth Mildred Bates Absher. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with this grandchildren and great-granchildren.

James was a retired Insulator Foreman. He was also a retired Army Veteran having served in Vietnam – Sgt. 101st Airborne.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Mark Anderkin; his sister and his brother.

Those left to cherish James’ memory are his loving wife of 46 years, Gretta Absher; daughters, Crystal Absher and Lisa Davis and her husband, Rick; son, Jamie Absher and wife Elicia; grandchildren, Shane Davis, Caleb and Jacob Absher; great-grandchildren, Noah and Annabell Davis; seven brothers and sisters; special friends, Jim Grisby, Carl Seaver, and Rick Davis; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Monday, August 7, 2017 in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services.
A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7:00 pm in the chapel with Pastor Randy Barron and Pastor Rick Vannoy officiating.

Military Graveside Rites will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at the V.A. National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN by The American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff of Caris Hospice, especially April, Janet, and Hannah.

The care of James Harold Absher and his family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.
