Charles Leonard Akers was born on the 6th of January 1898 at Welton Station nr Watford Village, Northamptonshire. He was the second of six children to Timothy Akers (1863-1934) & Maria Akers nee Lane (1865-1947), and his Father was employed as a Sawyer in the Timber Yard at Welton Station.

When the First World War came he enlisted on the 16th of October 1916 and served initially as 27210 Private Charles Leonard Akers, a Rifleman in the 6th Northamptonshire Regiment. He was also awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal at the end of the war.
After the war he returned to Watford Village to live with his parents and in the 1939 census was shown to be living with his widowed mother, and employed as a general labourer.
He died on the 20th of February 1977 and is buried at St Michael and All Angels Churchyard, Hughenden, Buckinghamshire. He shares a joint grave with his niece; Evelyn M. Bowers (1927-1998).
