Robert served as a Second Lieutenant & Bombardier on a B-24, 725th Bomber Squadron, 451st Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Columbiana County, Ohio prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on August 15, 1942 in Akron, Ohio. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Apprentice and also as Married.

While heading out on a bombing mission from Manduria, Italy this B-24 crashed on takeoff.

Robert was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Service # O-752575

He was originally interred in Italy and was later repatriated here with his family.

Note: The cemetery reported that he is indeed interred there however there is no stone on his plot.

Husband of Mrs. Robert E. McGaffic who resided in North Lima, Ohio.

There is no record that his brother Charles, who also died in 1944, was ever in the military.
