She was the daughter of John E. Thompson and Martha Patterson Thompson.
On April 9, 1990, she married John S.D. Eisenhower.
They had no children.

She co-authored the book, Yanks: The Epic Story of the American Army in World War I with her husband, John S.D. Eisenhower.
The Hammond Times published Tuesday, April 28, 1964 referred to her as Mrs. Joann Marshall of Evanston, Illinois in the obituary of her father, Jack Thompson.
