Archie Leonard Kring, Jr., 90, died Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at his home near Axtell, NE.

Archie was born August 12, 1926 on the farm near Axtell to Archie Leonard Kring and Pearl (Edney) Kring. He worked on the family farm and attended Axtell High School but was drafted into the Navy midterm of his senior year in January 1945. Archie was a Seaman First Class and spent most of his time in the service in Corpus Christi Texas where his extraordinary mechanical ability made him very successful in repair and maintenance of airplanes.

When Archie was discharged in 1946, he returned to the family farm. Having met the love of his life, Emma Lee Carrouth, while stationed in Norman, Oklahoma, they were then married in Carlisle, Arkansas on August 21, l947. To this union three daughters were born Janet, Jeannine, and Jayne.

Using the GI Bill, they moved to Milford for Archie to attend Nebraska State Trade School and was a member of the first graduating class in Auto Mechanics/Auto Body Repair. Upon completion of his schooling, they moved to Mason City, Iowa where Archie worked as the Parts Manager at the Lincoln Mercury Ford Dealership.

Deciding to be closer to family, they returned to Kearney, NE where he worked downtown for an auto parts store and the alfalfa mill. In 1954, moving the family to the renovated District 50 schoolhouse, they began farming full time with his parents.

Archie and Emma retired from farming in the late 1990’s. Their years of retirement were spent traveling/camping, gardening, visiting family, and enjoying their hobbies.

Archie dedicated a large amount of time to the First Presbyterian Church of Axtell, serving on various boards and a long time elder.

Archie is survived by his wife Emma Kring; his daughters, Janet Reeves and her husband Don of Axtell and their children Darcy and Danel; Jeannine Cramer and her husband Brian of Denver and their sons Michael and David; and Jayne Steffens and her husband John of Lincoln and their sons Chris and his wife Heather and Matt. Great Grandchildren include John, Jordyn, Jakob, Kennedy, Payton, Parker, Isaac, and Evan.
