She graduated from the Ethical Culture School in NY and attended Columbia Teachers College. She was a kindergarten teacher. Edith was 5'2" with brown hair (lighter as a child), and blue-green eyes She married fellow secular Jewish communist Spencer Brodney (Leon Brodzky) in 1918.

Her ashes were finally buried with her husband and son Richard, next to her mother Katia Siebel, under the largest tree at her family home in Free Acres community, 298 Emerson Lane.

The property belonged to Katia 1926-40 (her death), then passed to Edith and Leon/Spencer until 1973, then went to Edith's son Richard until his death in 2001, and from Richard to his niece Felicia who sold the property about 2004.
