JAMES PETERS KILLED EN ROUTE TO JOHNSTOWN (August 16, 1963)

T/Sgt. James L. Peters was killed at Platte City Mo., early Tuesday when his car was in a collision with a semi-truck there.

Peters was en route to Johnstown where his wife and three children were with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bunn.

The Peters family had been in French Morocco until recently but came back when Peters was placed in a military hospital in Germany and later transferred to the hospital at Travis Air Force Base, Calif. He had just been dismissed from there and had flown to South Carolina to pick up his car and was on his way home with it of the time of the fatal accident.

The Peterses had formerly lived in Long Pine.

Immediate survivors besides his widow and children include a sister, Mrs. Ivan White of Ainsworth and another sister of Grand Junction, Colo.

Funeral services will be conducted here Friday at 2 P.m. at the Congregational church.

OBITUARY OF JAMES PETERS

Funeral services for James L. Peters were held at the Congregational Church in Ainsworth, Friday, August 16, 1963, at 2:00 with the Rev. Gordon Jensen officiating. The Jessen-Wisda Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers were Charlie Mitchell, Cal Croghan, Ivan Dodd, Irish Dodd, Dale McNally and Bob Townsend.

Military services were conducted by the firing squad and honor guard from Sioux City A.F.B., Iowa.

James Lloyd Peters was born September 24, 1917 at Harrison Nebr., to James and Louise Peters. At an early age he moved to Long Pine where he attended school through the eleventh grade. He joined the service Aug. 8, 1941 and was discharged Sept. 12, 1945. He re-entered the service Feb 20, 1948 and was an active member of the U.S.A.F. until his passing Aug, 13, 1963.

He was united in marriage at Littleton, Colo. to Wilma Bunn. To this union were born three daughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his widow, Wilma of Johnstown; daughters, Sandra, Constance, and Patricia; two sisters, Mrs. Constance White of Ainsworth, and Mrs. Myrtle Mudgett of Grand Junction, Colorado; other relatives and friends.

Those from a distance here for the funeral of James Peters included Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Geike and Vern Holtz of Harrison; Mr. and Mrs. Dale Hamar of Chadron; Mrs. Donald Moore, Newell, So. Dakota.; Mr. and Mrs. Niels Seecroe of Missouri Valley Iowa; and Mr. and Mrs. Morris Davis of Basset.
