Viola Mae Pattee Jeppson was born September 3, 1922 in Pasco, Washington to Daisy French and William Pattee. She was the youngest of three daughters. She grew up in Yakima, WA where her mother relocated after divorcing their father, William "Bill" Pattee. Her mother married William Barto who raised the girls as his own. She graduated high-school in Yakima and soon after married Deloss Carl "Jep"Jeppson in 1942. They had three sons, Dennis, Mike and Duane.

During WWII while her husband was in the Merchant Marines, Vi stayed in Yakima near her family. After the war ended, the family moved many times while Jep worked on construction in California. They settled in Likely in the early 50s and remained there. Vi loved animals, gardening, ceramics and meeting and greeting people at the Likely Cafe. Whatever hardships came, there was never a bad day for Vi , as she was the eternal optimist.
