1965 ~ 2017
Kelly Leigh Grimmett Broadhead, 51, passed away peacefully Monday, August 14, 2017 at home with her family by her side.
Kelly was the first Christmas baby at the Good Samaritan Hospital, born on December 25, 1965 in San Jose, California, to her loving parents Doyle Lee and Norma Lee Lameira Grimmett.
Even as a child, Kelly was incredibly independent and was her own person, starting to pick out her own clothes at the age of 4. Her Grimmett and Portuguese temper kept her parents and school teachers on their toes and nothing ever got past her. But she was always willing to help her family. Kelly’s generosity started at an early age as she watched her younger siblings and loved spending time with them. Some of her fondest childhood memories came from spending time with her Nanny, working up at the church camp with her dad, and visiting Idaho to see family.
Kelly was a spirited teenager who always knew what she wanted and went after it. This is a quality she never lost. Kelly got her first job at 14 and never stopped working until she got sick. She loved going to football games, hanging out with friends, and singing in her high school choir.
As a young woman she met the man of her dreams and fell fast in love. Their love story was only beginning when Kelly and Bret Niles Broadhead were married on December 19, 1987 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They would be celebrating their 30th anniversary this year.
After living in Utah and Washington for a short spell (Kelly wasn’t too fond of the dreariness and never ending rain), they made their home in Andover, Kansas where they raised their three boys and made lifelong family friends that Kelly cherished.
Kelly was an incredibly hard-working, passionate woman. She worked as a dental assistant and later became a recruiter for dental network insurance companies. Her co-workers and employers valued her experience and ability to always take the challenging tasks head on and to get results.
Kelly was a passionate employee, but nothing can compare to the passion she had for her three boys. She was a fiercely loyal mother, and everyone knew that she would do anything for her boys. Kelly was so proud of their involvement in sports, clubs, and teams. She rarely missed a game or concert. Kelly taught them to protect their family, stay true to themselves, and be willing to fight for the things in life that are most important. Brett, Shane, and Jeff were her greatest joys in life.
Another source of Kelly’s overwhelming happiness came from her grandson Kayden. Kayden and his Nana had a special bond. Kelly loved to spend time with Kayden. Even when she moved from Kansas to Utah, Kelly made sure she took time to be with Kayden on her business trips. She embraced her role as Nana and was sure to indulge her only grandson.
Kelly was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, an approachable kind-hearted member missionary, and willingly served in various callings. She loved being with the young children and spoiled them with treats and parties. Kelly opened her heart to those she served, and had an extra soft spot for children who were having a difficult time or may have been slightly mischievous.
To say Kelly loved animals would be an understatement. Kelly was the type of woman who pulled her car to the side of the highway to rescue an injured animal and then drive it to a refuge. She was so excited to move to Honeyville where she was able to have horses, mules, dogs and her precious kittens. She often joked about having her own petting zoo.
Besides accumulating furry companions, Kelly enjoyed spending her time reading and watching movies with her family. She was an excellent decorator and craftswoman. For Kelly, anytime was a good time to go to the salon with whoever she could get to tag along for a pedicure day. Her family loved watching her dance moves in the car to her favorite songs or listening to her sometimes funny life advice. She was a master of the trout-eye and made the best pumpkin pie on record.
One cannot describe Kelly without mentioning her generous personality. Kelly never waited for those in need to come to her, instead she took it upon herself to lift and support others in the best way she could. She was incredibly selfless, always sacrificing for her family and friends. While curling up on the couch with a good book would be her preferred way to spend an afternoon, she would opt to go out on the boat with her boys solely for the reason that she wanted to be with them. Kelly was a dedicated wife, confidant, and best friend. Not many can match her level of dedication, love and generosity towards her family, friends, and neighbors.
Kelly was never much about crying and carrying on. Kelly was a strong, beautiful, and tenacious woman that could not be knocked off course. She took every challenge and trial in stride. She was always a fighter. Kelly tied her family together and she loved deeply and passionately.
She is survived by her sweetheart Bret; sons Brett, Shane, Jeff (Keara); grandson Kayden; parents Doyle and Norma Grimmett; siblings Jarett (Patti) Grimmett, Scott (Jadey) Grimmett, Tara Boss, Shannon Maus, Stephanie (John) Jorgenson.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Jamie and her mother-in-law, LaDonna Broadhead.
Special thanks to the Rocky Mountain Care Center and Encompass Hospice for their genuine friendship, love and care.
