CLEVENGER.

Died at Horton, October 10, of consumption, Grandma Clevenger.

Died in Horton, Kansas, Oct. 4th 1895, Mrs. Edith Clevenger, aged 81 years and 17 days. Deceased had been making her home with her son P.J. Clevenger, of this city, for the past several months. Funeral was held at the M.E. church, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The attendance was so large that all could not get into the church, while about eighty teams followed the remains to the city cemetery. Rev. H.D. Rice, pastor of the M.E. church, supplies the obituary, and pays the following beautiful tribute to the memory of a most excellent lady:
"Edith Larrison was born in Monmouth county, New Jersey, September 17, 1814. She was united in marriage to Mr. J.M. Clevenger in 1836. she was the mother of eleven children, six sons of whom, with her very highly esteemed husband, survive her. Her departure, which was as the setting of the sun without a cloud, occurred Oct. 4th 1895, age 81 years and 17 days.
She united with the church in her early life. She was a very devout Christian, and while she loved the Methodist Episcopal church, where she had her spiritual home so long, her kindly Christian sympathy embraced all Christian's. Her's was a very affectionate nature "It was natural for her to love". With this loving character, under the culture and discipline of grace, one would expect the greatest beauty and excellency. The mutual love and friendship that existed between Mother Clevenger and her family was phenomenal. It was beautifully pathetic to see her aged husband and six noble sons bow beneath the great bereavement. Her daughter-in-law, Mrs. P.J. Clevenger, who ministered so tenderly at her bedside during her last illness, was very greatly afflicted. The writer, assisted by the Rev. Bro. Streeter, conducted the funeral services from the M.E. Church, which was very largely attended by the citizens of Horton and Everest.

The six sons of Mrs. J.M. Clevenger were in attendance at her funeral Sunday. They were as follows; P.J. Clevenger, of this city; H.L. and H.A. Clevenger of Champaign, Illinois, G.G. Clevenger, of Augusta Kansas, C.H. Clevenger, of Malcom, Nebraska and H.L. Clevenger of Polo, Missouri. All are men in the prime of life.

She was buried at Horton, but then moved to Mount Hope in Champaign Ill. to rest with her husband.
