Alfred Lopez Castro, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed on July 25, 2017 at the age of 90. Born in Santa Ana, CA on August 27, 1926, he lived most of his life in Orange County.

Al graduated Class of 1944 from Santa Ana High School. He attended Santa Ana College and proudly served in the Navy. Al worked in the grocery business and eventually owned several small markets in Kern and Orange Counties. After retiring from the Retail Clerks Union, he then founded a house cleaning company and most of his clients became lifelong friends. Throughout his life Al was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed all types of sporting events. When he wasn't watching golf or tennis he was playing it. "Big Al", as he was known to many of his friends was an avid and competitive golfer and tennis player. After moving to the Mesa Verde area of Costa Mesa he became a member of the Mesa Verde Country Club. In 1990 he was the Men's Singles B Club Champion. And in 1994 Al won the Adoption Guild tournament in Newport Beach, CA in doubles. He was a regular at Willowick Golf Course and the Costa Mesa Country Club, where he made 3 hole-in-ones within the last 3 years of his life, "What A Guy!" Yet nothing made him more proud or happy than his family.

Al is survived by his daughter Christine Castro and her daughter Maegan Flores of Anaheim; son Gary Castro and wife Arlene and their children Duran and Olivia of Anaheim; daughter Diana Bartosh and husband Doug and their sons Justin and Joshua and his wife Kristin and great-grandchildren Scarlet, Hayden and Kyel all of Cottonwood, AZ; daughter Elizabeth Walker and her son Austin of Costa Mesa; daughter Alvena Johnston and her children Ryan and Jennifer of Huntington Beach; daughter Melinda "Wendy" Weaver and husband Bob and their children Francesca and John of Huntington Beach; daughter Lynne Castro and her daughter Caitlyn Brock of Costa Mesa; son Alfred "Lee" Castro and his wife Ngu and their sons Arden and Florian of Honolulu, HI. Al is survived by his longtime companion Bernice Armendariz of Santa Ana.

He was previously married to Gloria Mae Castro of Anaheim, mother of Christine and Gary. Al was also previously married to Martha Castro Avalos of Costa Mesa, mother of Diana, Elizabeth, Alvena, Wendy and their twins Lynne and Lee. Al gathered many friends over the years with his quick wit and zest for living.
