Maxine Lucille (Loomis) Courtad, age 97, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 14, 2017 at Country Pleasures Assisted Living.
She was born Feb. 21, 1920 in Cedar Run Village to Marion and Sadie (Crain) Loomis. Maxine married Richard (Dick) Courtad on Feb. 22, 1944 in Fort Custer.
She worked as a bookkeeper at the Park Place Hotel and later as a secretary in Traverse City Public Schools, retiring in 1980.
Maxine was very active as a 4-H Club leader, held offices in the Cedar Run Ladies Aid Society and was a board member of Almira School District and on the Benzie County Board of Education. In her most recent years she has also been very active in the Grand Traverse Area UAW Retirees.
She enjoyed all activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Country Pleasures and Heartland Hospice for the care they gave Mom.
Maxine is survived by her children, Douglas Courtad (Pam Wilsie), Carol (John) Fitzgerald, Mary (Dale) Dort and Susan (Jim) Childs, all of the Traverse City area; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Courtad in 2006; grandson, Scott Dort; her parents; and her brothers, Alvin, Joel and James Loomis.
Visitation will take place Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at 1 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
