ELEANOR M. BROECKERT
(1925 - 2017)

Eleanor M. Broeckert, age 92, a resident of Felician Village and longtime resident of St. Nazianz passed away Sunday morning, August 20, 2017 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

She was born July 4, 1925 in Spooner, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Victor and Estelle (Rannetsberger) Okonek. She grew up on Big McKenzie Lake in Burnet County near Spooner, WI and was a waitress at summer resorts. Eleanor attended elementary school in a small one room school in the Town of Scott, Wisconsin and Spooner High School, graduating with the Class of 1943. She then attended a Secretarial Finishing Course at Minneapolis Business College. Prior to moving to St. Nazianz, Eleanor was employed with Warner Bros. Picture Distributing Co. in Minneapolis and worked as a legal affairs secretary at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin during World War II. On May 6, 1950, Eleanor married Roman Broeckert at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in rural Spooner. Since moving to St. Nazianz, the couple were active members of the St. Gregory Catholic Church. Prior to having children, Eleanor worked with the Salvatorian Publishing Department in St. Nazianz and later cooked lunches for St. Gregory School, St. Nazianz. She was a member of the Christian Mothers Society, was active in greeting and being a eucharistic minister at church and for the homebound. She was also active in meal delivery for the senior citizen homebound program and volunteering at the Mission Warehouse in New Holstein. Eleanor enjoyed visiting family, gardening, Soduko, and being a "stay at home mom".

Survivors include her husband of 67 years: Roman Broeckert; their seven children: James Broeckert, Two Rivers, Donald (Susan) Broeckert, Napa, California, Steven (Ellen) Broeckert, Middleton, Paul Broeckert, Denver/St. Nazianz, Kenneth (Annie) DeRose-Broeckert, Peachtree City, Georgia, Ann (Charles) Tindol, Louisville, Tennessee, and Robert (Karen) Broeckert, Appleton; 15 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law: Alice Okonek, Spooner, WI. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She is further preceded in death by her brother: Donald Okonek.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 212 Church Street, Saint Nazianz. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Patrick Nelson, SDS. Following the service, Eleanor will be laid to rest at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery, Saint Nazianz.
