Laura Ercle Brooks, the eldest daughter of Edward Brooks and Emma Speak, was the second of three siblings to concede to the effects of typhoid fever in the Brooks home. Her obituary in the Semi Weekly Iowegian date 22 Oct 1912 reads as such [with corrections];

Obituary - Laura Ercle Brooks

Laura Ercle Brooks, [the] daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Brooks, was born in Chapel, Mo., Oct 15, 1898. [She] died at the home of her parents in Cincinnati, Iowa, October 18th, 1912 [at the] age [of] 14 years and 3 days. She was sick but a few days when the summons came she was ready.

Short funeral services were held at the grave conducted by Rev. James A. Worrel, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church Friday afternoon. Interment in the West cemetery at Cincinnati [Pleasant Hill].
