LIEUT. APPLETON BACK FROM BATTLE FRONT

Lieut. Donald Appleton, 102d Artillery, of Haverhill, wearing two foreign service stripes, reported today at the Northeastern Department offices. He has just returned from France and has been assigned to Camp Dix as an artillery instructor.
Previous to reporting at the headquarters here Lieut. Appleton visited his home in Haverhill. He declined to discuss his experiences abroad. It is known, however, that Lieut. Appleton was for seven days in an observation post, continuously under fire, at the battle of Marne, and has been recommended for a decoration for gallantry.

His relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 1989 at the Annisquam Village Church, Annisquam, MA. Friends who wish may make contributions to his memory to the Perkins Institute for the Blind, 175 North Beacon St., Watertown, MA, 02172.
